RYE, N.H.- It’s official John E. Sununu is once again running for the U.S. Senate.

Sununu announced his decision to seek the seat he held two decades ago in a video online and admitted to News 9 that he even surprised himself in deciding to run but says the dysfunction in Washington is one of his reasons for running.

Sununu’s presence in the race now creates some competition with former U.S. senator, Scott Brown, which a number of people expected to be the case, as both will be also seeking the endorsement of President Donald Trump, however Sununu tells WMUR-TV he’s more focused on the issues rather than an endorsement from the President; “I’m going to be the New Hampshire candidate, the New Hampshire Republican running effectively to be a voice for all people in New Hampshire on issues that matter: on health care costs, energy costs, housing costs, keeping inflation down, keeping our borders secure, and keeping taxes low.”

Sununu’s return the campaign trail comes after a 17-year absence from the political spotlight.
