Has Beyonce’ Always Been Country?
Has Beyonce’ Always Been Country?

As you probably heard yesterday, Beyoncé is on top of the country world.  And it has caused enough drama that Beyoncé’s mom, Tina Knowles, felt compelled to speak out and answer her critics.

Tina posted a compilation video of Beyoncé wearing cowboy gear all through different times in her life.  Tina wrote in the caption, “We have always celebrated cowboy culture growing up in Texas.  We also always understood that it was not just about it belonging to White culture only.”

She explained, “In Texas, there is a huge Black cowboy culture . . . When people ask why is Beyoncé wearing cowboy hats?  I actually laugh because it’s been there since she was a kid.”

Tina finished the post off with, “we went to rodeos every year and my whole family dressed in western fashion.  It definitely was a part of our culture growing up.”

There you have it.  Beyoncé is country.  It’s fitting that one of the clips in the video shows a “Time” headline that reads, “Beyoncé Has Always Been Country”.  And it seems like she’s here to stay.
