A New Hampshire Music Festival Is Turning a Day of Live Music Into Something Bigger

Here’s one for the “things to do this weekend” file—and there’s a pretty cool reason behind it.

Revel in the Meadow returns to Dover, New Hampshire this Saturday, August 15, bringing a full day of live music, food, art and camping to the Dover Elks Event Field.

But this isn’t simply another summer music festival.

The event is organized by the nonprofit Continuum Arts Collective, and net proceeds help support young artists and musicians throughout New Hampshire’s Seacoast, Southern Maine and beyond.

That means spending a Saturday listening to music can actually help the next generation learn how to make some.

The festival has a strong classic American roots-rock flavor this year.

The lineup includes A Band of Brothers, an Allman Brothers tribute; the Seacoast Last Waltz Band; Ramble on Rose Band; Shakey: A Night of Neil Young; Terra-Funk and Lightheaded Collective. An after-party featuring a Jerry Garcia Band tribute is also planned inside the Elks Hall.

And organizers have built plenty around the music.

There will be two stages, more than 20 artisans, homemade food, craft beverages, a community art project and several hours of art activities for kids. Camping is also available onsite.

One particularly nice touch: students 18 and younger get in free when accompanied by an adult.

That’s fitting considering the organization behind the festival.

Continuum Arts Collective works to make music and art more accessible to young people who might otherwise struggle to afford instruments, lessons or other opportunities.

And that’s what makes Revel in the Meadow a little different from the average summer concert.

You can hear some great music.

You can introduce the kids to some classic sounds.

You can spend a summer Saturday outside in New Hampshire.

And while you’re doing it, you might be helping a future musician get his or her first guitar.

That’s a pretty good encore.
