CONCORD N.H.- Gov. Kelly Ayotte has tapped former Manchester Police Chief and Army National Guard Brig. Gen. Allen Aldenberg to become the acting head of the Office of the Child Advocate

Per-state statue Aldenberg’s nomination comes with a 90-day period and is subject to approval of New Hampshire’s Executive Council and comes after Cassandra Sanches wrapped up her term on Friday.

The appointment comes after Governor Kelly Ayotte chose not to reappoint Sanchez to the position, as she was in hold-over status for the past six months, per- State Statue.

Following the announcement Governor Ayotte issued a statement in which she highlighted Aldenberg’s contributions to the community;

“General Al Aldenberg is an outstanding public servant, from his distinguished career in the military to his service as chief of the Manchester Police Department.”

“As chief in Manchester, Al saw firsthand what happens when systems fail to protect children, and he will be a steadfast leader for the Office of the Child Advocate during this period of transition. As we search for a new permanent child advocate, I am confident Al will help ensure the state is upholding its commitment to protect children in our care.”

The Executive Council is expected to take up the nomination at its next meeting on Wednesday at Nashua Community College.
