CONCORD, N.H.- Senate lawmakers will examine a bill this week that would give New Hampshire’s Department of Education the authority to get involved in the management of school districts facing a financial emergency.

Under the bill the state’s Education Commissioner would be allowed to initiate and implement a recovery plan in the event a district’s financial and operational condition is deemed a financial emergency.

The need for the legislation comes as districts like Claremont are facing a $5 million deficit.
