MANCHESTER, N.H.- Officials say a massive tuna caught off New Hampshire’s coast over the weekend has failed to set the new state record.

The news comes after it was determined that the 1,100lbs Bluefin Tuna caught Sunday by Captain James Savage and his charter Brandon McGirl was actually caught in federal waters.

The decision comes as officials cited a 2016 state law which says that fish qualifying for state records need to be caught in state waters.

Fish and Game officials meanwhile said that the sizable catch is still the largest Bluefin caught by a New Hampshire Fisherman and surpasses the state’s 2013 tune record by 150lbs.
