MANCHESTER, N.H.- A father from Nashua is facing serious charges after Police allege he beat his 3-month-old son over a period an extended period of time leaving the child with 30 fractures.

According to Police 36-year-old Drew Babcock was arrested Friday and was charged with eight felony counts of domestic violence-related first-degree assault for causing some 30 fractures to the child’s body over a two-month period.

Following his arrest Police say Babcock told police that he lost control because the child would not stop crying, and that he would apply pressure to the baby’s back, ribs, and stomach with the hope getting colicky. Babcock also admitted to police that he punched the child in the back and would lie on top of him.

The child is currently receiving medical attention for serious injuries, however officials don’t believe them to be life-threating, meanwhile Babcock’s other son has been placed in the custody of a family member.

Prosectors said Monday that the case began when the infant was taken to Lakes Region General Hospital by his grandmother for what she believed to be a cold, and that’s where Doctors discovered the more than 30 fractures and bruises on the baby’s body and then contacted the state’s Division of Children, Youth and Families who then notified Nashua Police.

Babcock’s attorney meanwhile said the child bruised easily because he had not received his vitamin shots.

Following his arraignment Babcock was ordered held in preventive detention.
