There aren’t many Nashville stages Miranda Lambert hasn’t played.
Tonight she gets one nobody has played.
Because it didn’t exist yet.
Miranda will headline the first-ever concert at The Truth, a brand-new 4,400-capacity music venue opening tonight, October 1, in Nashville’s Wedgewood-Houston neighborhood. Pollstar News
And she’s bringing a few extra musicians.
Specifically:
A 12-piece string section. Universal Music Canada
This is not your standard Thursday night country show.
The sold-out performance is essentially the beginning of Miranda’s album-release weekend.
Her new record, Crisco, arrives tomorrow, October 2. Universal Music Canada
And yes.
It’s really called Crisco.
But apparently Miranda isn’t suddenly making songs about shortening.
The title plays off the record’s combination of country and disco.
Crisco.
Country.
Disco.
There you go.
The 12-song album was co-produced by Miranda and Jesse Frasure and deliberately plays with sounds that don’t normally get placed next to each other.
Honky-tonks.
Disco.
Heartbreak.
Rhinestones.
Highways.
And apparently roller skates. Universal Music Canada
That sounds strange until you remember who we’re talking about.
Miranda Lambert has never had much interest in fitting neatly inside one version of country music.
She can make a Texas honky-tonk record.
Write a devastating acoustic song.
Make something that sounds like ’70s country.
Then apparently hang a disco ball over the whole thing.
And Crisco has some pretty interesting company.
Chris Stapleton joins Miranda on “A Song To Sing,” which became the biggest streaming debut of her career and has already earned a Grammy nomination. Universal Music Canada
Then there’s the album opener.
“Snakeskin Boots.”
Miranda recorded that one with Ella Langley, and it’s also slated to become a radio single. Universal Music Canada
That’s a pairing that makes an enormous amount of sense.
Ella has talked repeatedly about Miranda’s influence on her.
Now the two are opening Miranda’s new album together.
Tonight’s concert will combine songs from Crisco with music from throughout Miranda’s career, all rearranged with that 12-piece string section. Universal Music Canada
And while tickets are gone, fans won’t completely miss it.
The show is being recorded for an Amazon Music Songline Live special that premieres October 7 at 9 p.m. Eastern on Amazon Music, Prime Video and Twitch. Universal Music Canada
There’s also a free pre-show party outside The Truth today from 4 to 8 p.m.
Fans can bring pet supplies for Miranda’s MuttNation Foundation “Fill the Little Red Wagon” campaign, with donors getting a chance to win a signed Crisco CD. Universal Music Canada
Then Miranda heads home.
On October 6, she’ll play another special album-release show at Billy Bob’s Texas in Fort Worth. Universal Music Canada
But tonight belongs to Nashville.
A brand-new venue.
A brand-new Miranda Lambert album.
A dozen string players.
And country music apparently going to the disco.
Honestly, we’ve heard worse ideas.
