MANCHESTER, N.H.- Kids in a number of districts across the Granite State could be forced to find another way to get to school, as talks between the union representing school bus drivers and First Student have become contentious, as the contract for bus drivers is scheduled to expire Tuesday.

Monday night Teamster Local 633 took to social media and posted a 48-hour Strike Notice which reads:

The nearly 18,000 Teamsters school bus drivers, monitors, attendants and mechanics are making their message clear: they are ready to strike should the company fail to negotiate a fair contract.

The impasse comes as both sides continue to battle over a number of issues including pay and benefits.

Following the decision by union officials First Student issued a statement which read in part:

We are disappointed that the union’s leadership has threatened this unnecessary and impermissible measure.

In the event a strike occurs, the work stoppage would impact kids in Nashua, Derry, North Hampton, Plaistow, Rochester and Swanzey.
