Wrestling World Mourns as Hulk Hogan Passes Away at 71

TAMPA, FL – The world of professional wrestling is in mourning today as news breaks that Hulk Hogan, born Terry Bollea, has passed away at the age of 71. Known as the most iconic face of the 1980s wrestling boom, Hogan’s impact on pop culture, entertainment, and sports entertainment is immeasurable.

With his unmistakable mustache, bandana, 24-inch pythons, and signature catchphrases like “Whatcha gonna do, brother?”, Hogan transcended the squared circle. He headlined the first several WrestleMania events and played a pivotal role in taking WWE (then WWF) into the mainstream.

From slamming André the Giant in front of 93,000 fans at WrestleMania III to reinventing himself as “Hollywood Hogan” in WCW’s nWo, his career was nothing short of legendary. Hogan was inducted into the WWE Hall of Fame twice — once individually in 2005 and again as a member of the nWo in 2020.

Outside the ring, Hogan starred in films, reality shows, and commercials, becoming one of the most recognizable personalities on the planet. His influence stretched across decades, generations, and continents.

Though his life had personal and legal controversies, Hogan remained a beloved figure to millions of fans who grew up watching his larger-than-life persona.

Tributes from fans, wrestlers, and celebrities have poured in across social media, with the hashtag #RIPHogan trending worldwide. WWE is expected to air a tribute package and dedicate this week’s programming in his honor.

Hogan is survived by his children Brooke and Nick. Details of the cause of death have not yet been made public.
