The Savannah Bananas are proving once again that they’re more than a baseball team they’re an entertainment phenomenon.
During the opening of the 2026 ESPY Awards, the Bananas took center stage with a choreographed performance of their original song, “The Show Starts Now.” Dressed in their signature yellow uniforms, the team mixed dancing, baseball antics and Broadway-style energy to kick off one of sports’ biggest nights. Just when fans thought the performance couldn’t get any bigger, DJ Khaled appeared on stage to introduce the show, giving the Bananas another major pop culture moment.
The performance immediately lit up social media. While plenty of fans loved seeing the Bananas bring their unique brand of fun to the ESPYs, others questioned whether the act belonged at a traditional sports awards show. Barstool Sports founder Dave Portnoy was among the loudest critics, while many fans defended the Bananas, saying they represent exactly what sports entertainment should be: fun, energetic and family-friendly.
Love them or hate them, the Savannah Bananas continue to blur the lines between sports, music and live entertainment. From selling out stadiums across the country to sharing the spotlight with stars like DJ Khaled, the Bananas have built a brand unlike anything else in baseball.
